Kids' Choice Day

We decided this year to start a new tradition and declare the last Saturday before school begins as "Kids' Choice Day." We let the kids decide what to do with our whole day. Our friends the Lloyds invited us to join them on their boat on that day and the kids all agreed that sounded like a fantastic way to spend their special day. We woke up early and headed straight for donuts and to the Lloyds' house. Then we all headed to the lake. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the kids couldn't wait to get out on the water. Truly of course kept trying to pitch herself overboard; she loves being in the water, but we all managed to survive and have fun (and we only lost Truly's bathing suit shorts overboard.)

Grant and Truly checking each other out.
Pepper was brave enough to try out the knee-board. She got herself up for a few moments and really enjoyed it.

Me trying to keep Truly in the boat while Jen water-skied.
Between the glasses and the wind blown hair, Morgan looked like a teen heart throb from the eighties!

Comparing glittery pedicures.
Lunch time with some much needed shade.
Time to swim and cool off.

Morgan and Pepper had a great time with this tube. They loved going fast over the big bumps.

The girls having a turn. Hazel did not enjoy it as much as the others and insisted on going much slower.
Cody and Pepper. With Cody's weight they caught some serious air.
Morgan and I taking a turn. It made me completely nauseous but it was fun for a little while.

No nap was starting to take its toll on Hazel.
Total menace!
After we left the Lloyds at the lake, we drove back to our neck of the woods to have dinner at Donatos pizzeria. The kids love eating here and since everyone loves bread sticks and pizza it makes for an easy restaurant experience.

We completed our day of fun with Menchies frozen yogurt. We ran into our friends, Kate and Justin Tolman and their two girls. It was a long and exhausting day but oh so fun. Already looking forward to what the kids will come up with for next year.

I love when I capture a moment when Cody and the kids are smiling at each other.
"Yesterday was our last Saturday before school starts so we declared it 'Kids' Choice Day,' and let them choose all our activities (thanks for the idea Sarah Hillgrove.) We had donuts for breakfast, spent the day on the lake in our friend's boat, and finished off the day with pizza and frozen yogurt. Exhausting and fun. The kids are already planning 'Kids' Choice Day' for next year!"
"Pepper and her friend, Ava. These two have been best friends since around 18 mos. They were talking about clothes, hair, and nail polish and comparing arm muscles. They make me laugh!"
Here's a video of Pepper knee-boarding:
