On Wednesday, July 1st, Cody and I loaded up the kids into the van once again and this time headed west. We drove almost straight across I-80 for two whole days to Vernal, UT. We stopped over night in Des Moines, IA and stayed with our old neighbors Amy and Eric Groen and their kids. Both days were very long and uneventful (thank goodness.) We learned that after one long day it was easier to take turns sitting in the back seat with Hazel and letting Morgan sit in the front seat to take a break from whining and fighting. No one slept very much but luckily the DVD player kept everyone mostly happy and non-stop snacking. Also, picnic lunches made ALL the difference in keeping us all happy.

| So happy to be able to run free for awhile. |

| "When you've been in the car all day, this is how you entertain yourself in the middle-of-nowhere Nebraska!" |
| "SEVENTEEN hours in the van together today (and 12 hours yesterday) just about did us in, but we made it to our first stop, and we didn't leave any kids by the side of the road! Picnic lunches and Mamma-Mia sing-a-longs saved us. (And putting a parent in the back seat to separate whiny kids also helped!) I love my little family." |

| The action shot sequences. This was such a great rest stop on a beautiful sunny day. We really lucked out. |
| "So grateful to get to spend the afternoon/evening with old friends and watching the kids play together. Amy and Eric were THE best neighbors ever! We miss them everyday! (And yes, all our kids are the same ages! And no, I didn't notice the boy/girl separation until now!)" |

| Breakfast at a Quaker Steak and Lube in a humongous truck stop. |
| Cuddles in the back seat with Hazel. So nice to have a break from the whining. |
| Pepper was such a great helper as always. She loves making Truly laugh and helping feed her. |
| Another picnic lunch spot. This time we found a state park not too far off the highway and ate at a little pavilion area there. |
| "We're back. In the car. Again. (But at least we're out of the tree!) |
| What I want to be doing in the car on a road trip! |
